Boards
Treated softwood is the cheapest to buy; capped composite and hardwood cost more but suit Hartlepool's weather much better.
Frame strength
Exposed sites need a stiffer frame: closer joists, noggins, deeper beams and bracing on raised sections. This adds a little to the cost and a lot to the deck's life.
Fixings
Stainless fixings near the sea cost more than standard ones. They're a small part of the total and prevent rust.
Shelter
Slatted screens and glass panels are priced separately. Many people find a screen makes the deck usable on far more days.
Height, steps and guarding
Raised decks need taller posts, steps and balustrades. Multi-level designs need more framing and steps but often less guarding.
Access and ground
Walled yards on the Headland often have no side access. Old patios, rubble and soft ground take time to deal with.
Questions answered
Do windbreak screens add much to the cost?
It depends on length, height and material. We price screens separately so you can decide what's worth it.
What's included in your quote?
Everything needed to finish the deck: frame, boards, fixings, fascias, steps, any guarding or screens, removal of old materials and clearing up. Each is listed.
